Controlling the ih automatically with the i30: I hook up both the send AND return midi cables, so that information from the ih can be transmitted back to the i30. In global mode, you set the midi channel and make sure that "system exclusive messages" are enabled. On the ih, in learning mode, you specify the midi channel to match the i30's (the voicing buttons are from the bottom=1 to the top =5 and the ones across the top are for 10+the 1 to 5 below or 5 + 10 + the 1 to 5 below to get all the way up to channel 16. (my i30 works the ih just fine in plain old global channel 1). Then, I go to a backing sequence, and record an extra track, usually track 8, the last one, the most likely to be free. As I start the recording of the bsq extra track, I simply push whatever chordal mode voicing buttons I am wanting on and off during the sequence. This is especially handy for that tight timing, sometimes I have a special voicing pattern for just one word. You can enter the CC#'s manually as well, but being lazy and prefering the tight timing, I just use button pushes on the ih, and the i30 "learns" them. It's amazing to play back the sequence and see the ih going through voicing changes all by itself! I start every sequence with the ih voicings muted, and end each that way, so it never matters what song I am working on, or if I change the order of the songs, each song starts with the same default position. This is important because the ih will remain in the position of that last song, and it could be wrong. The default solves this problem.
