i30 Hard Disk Installation 1. Ensure that you have the correct disk drive (EIDE 2.5" as per Korg list in i30 documentation) e.g. Toshiba 1.4GB 2.5" Model MK1401MAV 2. Ensure that you have 4 mounting screws (that fit into the sides of the HDD) **Glen's note - the last successful install reported on the Forum specified 3mm machine thread** 3. You will need a phillips head screw driver and an ESD (electro static device). 4. Place the keyboard upside down on a soft surface so that the "power switch" is towards you (keys away from you). 5. Remove all of the screws from the bottom plate EXCEPT the two that have holes large enough to clear their head through the plate. 6. Remove the plate (lift up) and note that it is heavier than expected. Use the ESD appropriately through the following steps. 7. Identify (near the power on switch) a bundle of yellow wires terminating in a tan board about 1/2" x 2". This board (HDD female connector) is secured by one screw (slightly smaller, phillips head screw) to the cradle provided for the hard drive. That is the one screw you don't want to drop! 8. You'll notice the yellow wires are held tidy by a black (flexible) tie tag. Release the yellow wires from the tie tag. 9. Release the connector board by removing the single holding screw (this screw is not used again and can be thrown away or simply replaced in its original position and left in the i30). 10. Locate two rails that attach to the HDD. These are attached to the i30 by 3 screws which have rubber washers and grommets. Note that one of these screws also secures the tie-tag. You must remove these rails and attach them to the HDD outside of the i30. 11. Connect the HDD to the rails with the 4 mounting screws NOTE: the drive sits in the i30 so that it is the right way up when the i30 is the right way up i.e. you mount the HDD upside down (HDD circuitry facing you). Test the refit of the rails and screw holes before going further - the rails ("L" shaped) can be fitted using either side of the "L" but only one side will fit back correctly. 12. Connect the connector to the HDD. (I found it easier to connect the "connector board" to the HDD before screwing the rails back into place. REMEMBER THE HDD IS UPSIDE DOWN WHEN YOU PUT IT IN.) 13. Replace the rails with the 3 screws and rubber washers. 14. Secure the yellow wires with the tie tag. 15. Replace the base plate. 16. Replace the 22 (I think) screws to secure the base plate. 17. The i30 start up window should display "Hard disk installed" in the top right corner. 18. Format the drive (takes 1 second!! - is a quick format) Note that the i30 only recognises 1GB of the disk capacity - it will show 999MB free after format. 19. You now have an i30HDD model. ############################## END OF INSTRUCTIONS ##############################
