Tapas Das PC recording setup Mon Sep 24 17:42:09 2001 Wily, I support your idea. Wait a while and go for the full blown power of the desktop PC. You will come ahead in the long run. My setup is extremely simple. I use both the Korg i30 and the Korg O1W/fd as dual controller keyboards. I access combis and programs from a couple of Triton rack modules, a Korg SG Rack, a Korg N1R module a Korg Wavestation EX keyboard and an EMU Proteus and Alesis drum module. I manage all the MIDI routing via a MOTU Midi Timepiece AV that connects to a desktop PC running Cakewalk. All my sound bank are controlled via Emagic SoundDiver Librarian/Patch editor. All the audio signals are mixed with a Mackie LM3204 mixer and a Mackie CR1604 mixer. I fine tune all the tracks/MIDI sequences in Cakewalk and mix it down to the master 2 tracks applying the Sony R7 reverb on the final mix and record it directly to a Tascam DA30 DAT. I edit all the start/stop ids and then transfer the tracks digitally to a Philips CDR800 standalone CD recorder. After numerous configuration changes, I find this the cleanest and simplest way to transfer the rich sounds of the Korg modules to a CD. You should note that I do not store or edit digital audio on the PC at all! This is possible because I do not record live guitars/vocals. Mine is just a simple setup to record synths using MIDI "on the fly". Tapas.
